Niall Tiernan

Senior Consultant

Niall has over 30 years experience in the construction industry. Previously he worked as a Commercial Manager for a major international contractor. He has also worked for a major professional quantity surveying practice, which involved secondments to a number of clients. His experience covers a range of building and civil engineering projects.

Niall qualified as a quantity surveyor in 1999 and is currently a Member of the Royal Institution of  Chartered Surveyors. He is also a member of the Chartered Institute of Builders and the Society of Construction Law. Following a two year training contract with one of London’s largest city law firms, Niall qualified as a solicitor in 2010.

He has considerable experience of the contractual and financial aspects of construction projects, including design development, on site and through to settlement of claims, with responsibility for procurement, agreeing contract terms and negotiating many final accounts. His experience includes managing the change control process on a £200m office development, and recovering via adjudication the costs of compensation events on NEC contracts.

Niall has extensive knowledge of non-contentious matters. He has drafted a wide range of contractual documentation including project agreements, payment and performance mechanisms, consultancy agreements, novation agreements, warranties, etc.

He is well versed in preparing and defending contractual and quantum claims. He has successfully dealt with adjudications covering loss and expense, delay/ extension of time, and disruption.
