Blake Newport Hosts Joint Seminar with Vizards Wyeth

Blake Newport’s London office hosted a joint client seminar with Vizards Wyeth, the city solicitors at Browns Court Rooms in Covent Garden on 24 September.
Approximately 40 Blake Newport and Vizards Wyeth clients and contacts from across the South East attended the event entitled “Cash is King – But who’s got the Cash”. The seminar was presented by Simon McGrail (Associate Director, Blake Newport) and Simon Loveday (Construction Partner, Vizards Wyeth), who took on the roles of Contractor and Employer respectively. The two Simons presented the procedures, pitfalls and defences of the parties as they progressed through a fictitious JCT 2005 D&B payment scenario; each trying to assert and maintain control and ultimately possession of the cash. The seminar was not presented as a full role play but certainly provide an opportunity for interaction between the two presenters.
Drinks and canapés followed the formal proceedings which provided a great opportunity for new introductions, renewing old acquaintances and socialising with existing valued clients.
Everyone seemed to enjoy the evening and a few even acknowledged that they had learnt one or two things. The overriding feedback however was that in these difficult economic conditions it was a timely reminder of basic procedures that are all too often bypassed resulting in loss of control of the cash.
